To consolidate the Chinese empire the first emperor fixed the problems in politics, economy and culture. Qin shi Huang Di established one government over people who had fought for over hundreds of years and who lived under completely different rules. The Qin dynasty set standards which survived until the 20th century. Huang Di introduced
- a common law system - a simplified writing system - standardised weights and measures - a common currency - five major roads and bridges to link the capital Qin shi Huang also made a common currency called the Banliang coin. Qin Shi Huang Di did some sensational things but he also did some horrendous and awful things. Qin Shi Huang Di many books that were Confucian were burned. He saved some books that dealed with astrology and medicine. However owning any outlawed texts was a serious crime and would result in serious punishment. Scholars would be buried alive for having copies of the books that he had burned. Huang di handed out brutal and unfair punishments to people who just simply broke the law. They were buried alive or had to work on the Great wall (a huge wall that`s purpose was to stop invaders getting into China) or his tomb which has 8,000 figurines made from clay. Qin Shi huang did some sensational things that are unbelievable but he was also a tyrant. Question- Do you think Qin Shi Huang Di did more good then bad? Why? Why do you think Qin Shi Huang buried 460 scholars alive? |
